Island of light – Smögen
One of the most exciting events this autumn was ISLAND OF LIGHT in Smögen. It was an amazing light show that transformed the small fishing village into a magical art gallery.
Me and my friends decided to make a nice night out of it all. Since we had to wait until dark, to get the full effect of the event, we met at one of the friends' houses and enjoyed some snacks and drinks before we headed towards Smögen. We drove our own cars and found a parking space near the tent which is quite directly after the Smögen bridge. We left there for about 5 minutes only.
Once at the port, we followed the marked loop that started at the fishing port. There we were greeted by a sea of colorful lights that lit up the boats and the water. We then continued along Smögenbryggan, where there were various installations that played with light, sound and movement. We stopped at some of them and took pictures and videos.

The loop then led us out to the bathing islands, where it felt like we had arrived in another world. It was dark and silent, except for the mysterious light works that created contrasts and shadows. We walked around and admired the various works, which were both beautiful and challenging.
After a while we got hungry and a little thirsty, so we headed to the food trucks along the road, at a parking lot, that served everything from hamburgers to crêpes. We tried a few of them and were not disappointed.
The picture above shows lanterns made from fishing nets. Really cool effect.
Images were projected onto various walls. For example, it was of a boy who moved in the picture. The image below, the climbing woman, was among the most effective in my opinion. It gave the impression that the person climbed a ladder straight into the basement of the house above. Cool.
We were really lucky with the weather that night. It was warm and calm, without wind or rain. It made the experience even more enjoyable.
I can really recommend ISLAND OF LIGHT to anyone who likes art, light and nature. It was one of the better things that happened this fall.
Smögen is a destination that can be visited all year round. There is always a certain charm to getting there. Of course, the period in summer is the most popular, but also like this event, there are fun things to find in other seasons as well. Please also read about then we visited Smögen on Christmas Eve, when we sat among the rocks and enjoyed a nice day, and then went home and had a good Christmas lunch.
