Stora Dyrön with a northern and southern harbor
As I said, Stora Dyrön has two ports, one in the north and one in the south. The northern port is the larger of the two and here you will find the restaurant The trawling plant, which serves good food with local ingredients and a view of the sea. Here you can also have a coffee at the bakery or shop in the small shop. The southern harbor is smaller but sweeter and here lies the café Linas Brygga, where you can enjoy homemade buns and sandwiches. There is also a small library and an art gallery here.
Overnight stay
If you want to spend the night on Dyrön, there are several options. You can rent a cottage, a room or an apartment from one of the local rental companies. It can be a bit difficult to find commercial accommodation. You can search for houses via cottage summer, but can also contact the locals who rent out themselves. Find things to do
One of the major attractions on Dyrön is the beauty the hiking trail which goes around the island. It is called Dyröleden and is approximately 5 km long. The trail offers varied nature, from rocks and slopes to forests and meadows. Along the trail there are several benches and tables where you can pause and enjoy the view. The trail is not very long, but it is quite hilly, so expect it to take a few hours to walk around.
Bathing is best in these places
If you like swimming, you have several places to choose from on Dyrön. IN north harbour there is a bathing area with a long jetty, a bathing ladder and a small sandy beach. Here you can also rent kayaks or SUP boards if you want to explore the water. IN Söderhamnen is there another bathing place called Hala & Fiskeviga. It has a wooden bridge and is suitable for children. But the most special bathing experience is perhaps in the sauna located by the rocks in the south. It is open all year round and must be booked in advance. Here you can warm up in the wood-burning sauna and then take a dip in the salty sea.
Feel free to hike on the island, but also other activities.
In addition to hiking and swimming, there are other things to do on Dyrön. For example, you can visit one of the many artists who live and work on the island. You can also play miniature golf, boules or tennis at one of the facilities available. Or you can just relax in a hammock or read a book in the sun.
This is how you get to Dyrön
Getting to Dyrön is easy. You can take a ferry from Rönnängsbrygga on Tjörn. There are two lines that go to Dyrön, line 361 which runs all year round and line 326 which only runs in the summer. The ferry takes about 15 minutes and costs SEK 35 for a return ticket. If you want to take the car for your trip to the island, you can park it at Tjörn's ice rink, which is about 15 minutes' walk from the ferry stop. It costs SEK 40 per day to park there. You can also take a bus to Rönnäng from Gothenburg or Stenungsund. There are three bus lines called Grön Express, Stenungsund Express and Tjörn Express. See the timetable for more information.
Dyrön is an island that has something for everyone. Regardless of whether you want an active or a relaxed holiday, you will enjoy yourself on Dyrön. But, not for many days, because it is quite a small island. It is a place where you can get close to nature, culture and people. Welcome to Dyrön - a gem in Bohuslän!
