 Hunnebostrand is Lobster Mecca

Lobster fishing is one of the most exciting and popular activities on the west coast. Every year it attracts thousands of fishermen and tourists who want to experience the unique feeling of pulling a fresh and delicious lobster out of the sea. In Hunnebostrand there is Hummer Academy, which is a center of lobster culture and knowledge. Here you can learn everything about lobster biology, history and cooking, as well as get tips and advice on how to fish lobster in the best way.

Lobster fishing is regulated by laws and regulations aimed at preserving the lobster population and promoting sustainable fishing. There are certain dates and times that apply to lobster fishing, as well as requirements for the size, sex and labeling of the lobsters. Lobster fishing starts on the first Monday after September 20 at 07:00 and continues until April 30 at 17:00. The lobster must be at least 10 centimeters long from the front edge of the eye to the back edge of the tail, and females with rum or fry may not be picked up. The lobster must also be tagged with a tail fin clip before it is released back into the sea.

If you want to try lobster fishing but don't have your own boat or equipment, there are several companies that offer organized boat trips for tourists to go lobster fishing with. You then get the chance to see how the experienced fishermen work, as well as taste the freshly caught lobster on board or on land. It's an unforgettable experience you don't want to miss!

Lobster fishing is part of the west coast's soul and tradition, and a perfect way to enjoy nature, the sea and the good food. Book your spot today and experience the lobster fishing in Hunnebostrand and the rest of the west coast!

Travel & transport

Come by car

It is easy to get here by car. Hunnebostrand is close to the main trail that goes all the way up from Grebbestad, down to Smögen. So, it is easy to go on day trips and then return in the evening. Parking right down at the harbor can be a bit difficult during the most popular months. But, a little further into the community you will find parking. There are never long distances between the different things you want to do.

Bring a motor home

Come by boat

Of course, there is a marina, with guest berths.

Direct buses run from, among others, Uddevalla and Gothenburg. It is Västtrafik that manages these bus transports. A link to west traffic is: https://www.vasttrafik.se

For example, it takes about 2.5 hours from Gothenburg to Hunnebostrand.

Come by train

There are no train tracks nearby. The nearest train station is Munkedal or Uddevalla. However, Västtrafik, which manages the transports, combines train and bus traffic in a good way. Expect around 2.5 hours Gothenburg – Hunnebostrand

Bring a bicycle

You cycle on the motorway mostly if you have to get between nearby communities. Many people cycle on the road and it works well, as motorists often pay attention. Two tips about cycle paths.
