Overnight can take place in several different places on the island. An alternative is The pilot hotel, which dates back to the 19th century and offers a fantastic view of the harbor and the sea. Another is Peterson's tavern and B&B, which is located in a cozy old house with a garden full of flowers. If you want to live near the water, you can choose Hotel Kärringön, which has modern rooms and a popular seafood restaurant on the menu.
Hiking options.
You can walk around the island on the small paths that wind between the houses and the rocks. There are several nice viewpoints to stop at, for example Lotsutkiken, where you can see the entire island and the archipelago. If you want to learn more about the island's history and culture, you can visit Kärringön's local history museum, which is located in an old pilot house and customs house.
Best bathing spots.
Bathing is best done at one of the island's three bathing spots. Men's and Women's Bath is a nude bathing facility located in a protected bay. Here you can sunbathe and swim in peace and quiet, without having to worry about swimwear. The children's pool is another option, suitable for families with small children. It is located in a shallow bay before Herr and Dambadet, and has a sandy beach and jetty. The trampoline pool is the third option, which is a bit away from the others. It's worth the walk, because here you get a fantastic view of the sea and the cliffs. There is also a trampoline to jump from for those who dare.
Advice on what you can do
There are plenty of tips on what to do on the island. You can for example rent a bike or one kayak and explore the island on your own. You can also try on fishing or sailing with one of the local boats. If you want a little more action, you can play miniature golf at Skafferiet, which also has a simpler café with ice cream, coffee and sandwiches. If you are hungry, you can eat on one of the islands restaurants, all of which focus on local produce and the delights of the sea. Simsons café and Simsons Restaurang are two classics, located in the same building by the harbour. The cafe has pizza, salad and hamburgers on the menu, while the restaurant has more fine dining such as lobster, oysters and char. There is an old story about this Samson, who forced the women in the past to bring topsoil from the mainland. Today, therefore, there is fertile soil to cultivate on the island. Kärringön's fishing shop is another tip, where you can buy fresh fish and shellfish directly from the boats.
